Missouri Fish
Director, Gregory Gutenko, USA
Missouri Fish is an alternative reality. Within the context of life, change occurs so frequently that it is often hardly noticed. The shock of the new and different becomes commonplace slowly through interaction and exposure. The obstacles to contact and interrelationships, created by isolation, soon vanish through visibility.
Missouri Fish is an experimental short film made by Kansas filmmaker Gutenko and his collaborator in 1985. It’s in competition for a new ReelHeART Category for 2008, called “Off The Shelf”, for films that are 5+ years older. Forget “when pigs fly”- Go FISH!
Rock n Tokyo
Director, Pamela Valente, Brazil/France
Even if Japanese society preaches uniformity and order, there is an underground world, where people live more freely. Like these 4 rock bands: Guitar Wolf, 3 very loud guys wearing black leather and shades; The 5678s, rock-a-billy queens who conquered the world with a memorable scene in Tarantino’s Kill Bill ; the Jet Boys, led by an extreme, crazy, borderless and exhibitionnist singer ; Nine, young guys who believe in success by music. Meet a Tokyo you never imagined could exist!
