    The Morning News
    Director, Louis McCullagh, UK
    Sponsored by Denison’s Brewery

In old age your world shrinks and becomes background noise. ‘The News’ is not your news, you are hidden, forgotten. Your understanding of your partner deepens and things need no longer be spoken. You finish each others’ sentences and anticipate what the other will think. This morning Jim’s wife, must rely on him knowing what she wants. He tries his best, and through his actions he spells out a love which is the morning news.

Gustav, Will, Marco and Abeeku, four men from different parts of the world, wander in a desolate land. They are tired, covered in dust. Marco, covered in bruises and wounds, stops walking. The sound of a loud wave crashing on the shore distracts the four men. Gustav to relieve Marco’s pain suggests they all go to the Sea. The men are not fully convinced, they stop and rest. The idea of going to the Sea slowly grows in them. The sound of the Sea becomes louder. Will and Abeeku burst in an argument. Then peace again. They rest. Gustav gives them a sign, they start walking again. The sound of the Sea becomes now very loud to dramatically reveal where the men really are.

The Proper Care & Feeding of an American Messiah
    Director, Christopher Hansen, USA

The Proper Care & Feeding of an American Messiah is the mock documentary story of a man who thinks he is a messiah. Not the messiah, but rather a local, regionally-selected messiah for his own hometown. He’s on a quest, desperately trying to raise money for a town-wide rally where he hopes to announce his deity - and to determine his true, God-given ’special purpose’ in life. Which may or may not have something to do with ailments of the lower gastrointestinal tract, but he won’t be sure until he hears more or less directly from God.
