Divertissement: Everyday Dancers’ Stories
Director, Ed Lippman, USA
Divertissement’ is the story of five amateur dancers who began the study of classical ballet later in life and how their lives were transformed through dance. Each of these women are non-professional dancers with lives, careers and families outside the studio, yet each is drawn by the desire to fulfill something long set aside. Coming from all walks of life, they confront obstacles of ageism, physical and self-esteem issues and emotional challenges as they pursue their dream of dance. How they persevere and how their lives change is as touching as it is empowering.

A Yeti in the City
Director, T’chaka Sikelianos, Greece/USA
A Yeti in the city is a poor man’s grown up Muppet movie. Through live action, animation, costumes, music, poetry and state of the art Do-It-Yourself techniques, it is an autobiographical tale about the challenge of finding one’s true identity in a society that is often trying to suppress such individuality. The story begins with a brief documentary about the filmmaker in the style of The Wizard of Oz. The film then transitions into the tale of our Yeti as he enters a mythical city full of humans and evolved animals. Being neither human nor animal, he causes quite a stir, makes a few friends, a couple enemies, and unlocks his own secret abilities in a climactic poetry party ending.
