    Pat Kelman’s film Encounters won 1st Place in the Feature Film category in our inaugural season. He returns this year to bring us three films that explore the themes of loss, truth, secrets and lies. The first film, FRANCIS, touches on a guilty secret that threatens to tear two sisters apart.

    When Sharon’s two sons come to visit for her birthday she tries to cover up her manic state but the day’s chaos lands her back into her usual self-loathing self. In her desperation she begs her son to honor her desired path to find freedom against the judgment of society and his own conscience.

    Ruth

    During the days of the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza strip, when the residents of the Katif Settlements are uniting to fight for its existence, Ruth realizes that she doesn’t belong anywhere.
    “RuTH” Is an adolescence story of a young girl living in the most dangerous place in Israel. In a society demanding a united front and common beliefs, ruth fights to interpret her faith in her own way. It is not a political struggle but the struggle of one girl for the privilege of holding an independent opinion.
