Film and TV Golden Globe Nominees Announced!

By Shannonn Kelly

Five nominations lead the pack for  “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ” starring Brad Pit and Cate Blanchett and directed by one of my faves: David Fincher.

“Frost/Nixon ”, also received five nominations, starring Frank Langella who’s had a terrifc 12 months at the box office with his 2007 film, "Starting Out In The Evening " as aging, sickly writer, Leonard Schiller, who comes across ambitious graduate student who tries to convince him her thesis can resurrect his career.

Can you guess who I want to see win the Golden Globe…? and then the Academy Award in the Best Actor category…?

Other best-drama nominees: “The Reader,” “Revolutionary Road” and “Slumdog Millionare.”

The year’s blockbuster, “The Dark Knight ,” had only one nomination, supporting actor for Heath Ledger as the Joker. I believe Aaron Eckhart, who played Harvey Dent, should have also been nominated for his complex role and energy that (I suspect) spurred Heath on to give the performance he did.

Two nominations for Meryl Streep for best dramatic actress for “Doubt” and musical or comedy actress for “Mamma Mia!”; and Kate Winslet for best actress for “Revolutionary Road” and supporting-actress for “The Reader.”

Other nominees for dramatic actress were: Anne Hathaway, “Rachel Getting Married” (What???); Angelina Jolie, “Changeling”; and Kristin Scott Thomas, “I’ve Loved You So Long”, whom I predict will win. If not, then Jolie-

Nominees for dramatic actor were Leonardo DiCaprio, “Revolutionary Road”; Frank Langella, “Frost/Nixon”; Brad Pitt, “Benjamin Button”; Sean Penn, “Milk”; and Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler”.

Everybody loves a comeback and as Jeremy Piven in his role as "Ari" on "Entourgage says:, "Since Britney blews hers, it’s all yours!".  I would love to see Mickey Rourke (who took 20 years to learn not to be a pain in Hollywood’s ass) to win this hands down.

Sorry Sean Penn, you are the ultimate contemporaty character actor and my ‘go-to’ guy, but the release of Milk is in the wrong year. Damn!

Sorry Frank Langella, you should have have been nominated and won last year for both the GG and the Oscar.

Mickey needs to win this. At least for his faithful dog-pal "Loki". If Rourke wins, I know you too will be secretly happy for him.
