Springsteen Fires Up Super Bowl

Not a football fan at all , I do try to flip in for one of the overly expensive commercials or the half-time show.bruce

This year was a far cry from the ‘wardrobe malfunction’ of Super Bowl past and that’s because Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was in charge.

Mighty Bruce Springsteen aka "The Boss", dressed in black like some bad-ass balladeer, told the folks  watching the Super Bowl at home to,  "put the chicken fingers down and turn the television all the way up!"

Then he did his thing and rocked the stadium and the folks and loyal followers at home. Even people like me who love "The Boss", but hate the ‘Bowl’ couldn’t leave the TV while ‘Bruce’ was on.

If you’ve never been to a Springsteen concert you don’t know what you’re missing.  Let’s say you’re not a big fan, but you listen to his music when it’s on – - well, if you go to one of his action-packed-song-filled-all-about-the-energy concerts, you’ll become a die-hard fan.

The last concert I saw Bruce Springsteen, he even pole-danced using the microphone stand. And his guitar was still strapped to him! How old is this dude…? (The answer is 59.)

Sunday’s Super bowl was like a mini-Bruce-concert full of incredible high energy and never a low moment.

There was a five-piece horn section headed by longtime E Street saxophonist Clarence Clemons . There were also fireworks, a huge stage and a massive stadium crowd swaying small flashlights in the stands.

Bruce and his forever faithful E Street Band started with "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," immediately kicking into the old standard "Born To Run", moving to the title track on his latest album, "Working on a Dream" which he sang backed by a gospel choir, Patti Scialfa , Bruce’s wife and band member, and buddy guitarist Stevie Van Zandt (Silvio Dante in The Sopranos ). Springsteen closed his set with the Bruce-tacular "Glory Days."

Springsteen is hot-hot right now. He supported and played for President Barack Obama .

Fittingly for this new presidential era, Bruce just released his 24th album this week called "Working on A Dream". As a favor to Mickey Rourke, after a simple phone call, Springsteen penned the Golden Globe winning song for Darren Aronofsky’s film, "The Wrestler ", starring Mickey Rourke .

Yep, when "The Boss" is in charge, it certainly feels like Glory Day are here again…

  1. I’m so disappointed in the “Boss”. After he became political and came out saying he supported Obama I lost a bit of respect for the singer. I turned the volume on mute and took a nice long pee break while he was on… his ratings are waaaaayyyy down for me!

  2. Hi Erin

Thanks for taking the time to leave a coment at ReelHeART Blogs. Are you a Republican or do you just not like Artists mixing ‘politics with pleasure’? Just curious.
I’d like to know why you’re disappointed in the “Boss”
