Ashton Kutcher, better known as “@aplusk” on Twitter vowed on his YouTube video to “Ding, Dong, Ditch” ( twilight or late night game for bored latch-key American kids like yours truly)  Ted Turner’s house in Atlanta, if he could get to 1 Million tweeple before CNN got 1 Million. While people like uhm, whine on websites like ValleyWag.Gawker.com that Ashton cheated his way to get his cool million, other Twitter-atti had their own campaigns.

Fameball’s Julia Allison promised to dye her hair red if she could reach 25,000 Twitter followers before Kutcher hits 1 million. Perez Hilton promised nude pictures of Zac Efron and Robert Pattinson if he got more followers than Ashton.

Even dear ol’ Larry King shot a video taunting Kutcher for thinking he can cream CNN. And celebs like Dancing With The Star’s L’il Kim urged people to follow Kutcher to get him to his million.

Well, Ashton is far and away the winner at last look  (5:24PM, EST)  
Kutcher 1,092,192  vs. CNN 1,029,484

Before this smackdown, Kutcher already dwarfed the New York Times, Barack Obama and NPR.

And here’s what you might not know about this seemingly silly contest: The winner will be donating 10,000 mosquito nets in Africa on World Malaria Day on 25 April.  Kutcher said in an online video, “I just found it astonishing that one person can actually have as big a voice online as what an entire media company can”.
