10:04PM, EST, January 29, 2010

Get ready to have some gaudy fun this Sunday as Lady Gaga and reportedly Elton John open the 2010, 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, at 8PM, EST on CBS.

Who will out ‘House of Munroe‘ the other will remain to be seen. But it might be fun to see Elton and Lady Gaga both perform as coconut donuts. Lady Gaga also has 6 nominations.

Also performing at the Grammy’s are: Beyoncé, the Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Dave Matthews Band, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Green Day, Maxwell to name a few. The Black Eyed Peas are also nominated in 6 categories and promised that their performance will be unlike anything that the fans have seen before. “We’re gonna have some surprises. We’re just gonna do our part and entertain cats that are watching the Grammys,” Will.I.Am told MTV News on Thursday night in Los Angeles. “It’s gonna be fun.”

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards are definitely music’s biggest night. I’ll be tweeting as usual. In the meantime, I got a chuckle at the article below from Becky Bain from Idolator:

*Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Celine Dion and Usher will sing a tribute to Michael Jackson, and This Is It’s “Earth Song” short film will be screened in its entirety in 3D. With any luck, it will also star a CGI’d Michael as a Na’vi straight out of Avatar.

*Green Day will perform “21 Guns” with the Broadway-bound cast of American Idiot. The cast of Cats will then storm the stage and say “Sorry, Green day, Imma let you finish, but ABBA had one of the best jukebox musicals of all time.” (No, that joke will never die until it is used in every hypothetical scenario.)

*Drake, Eminem, Lil Wayne and Travis Barker will perform together, most likely the remix of “Forever.” Unfortunately, none of these male artists are nine months pregnant, so last year’s all-star “Swagga Like Us” (with a M.I.A. performing on her due date) cannot be topped.

*Bon Jovi will perform one of three hits, depending on which song fans vote for. Whatever they choose to play, we’ll be humming “You Give Love a Bad Name” to ourselves.

*Probably no Kanye West. But we’re expecting—nay, counting on him—to BLOG.

*Somebody awkwardly asking Rihanna “So, why weren’t you here last year? Car trouble?” before immediately feeling like an ass.

*Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli will perform “Bridge Over Troubled Water” to support the victims of the Haiti earthquake. Because somebody already came up with the genius idea to sell leggings.

*A tribute to guitar legend Les Paul with Jeff Beck and Imelda May. Maybe it will inspire kids watching at home to stop playing Guitar Hero and actually pick up a damn instrument.

*Jamie Foxx will perform with T-Pain, Slash and Doug E. Fresh. And they will all be upstaged by a giant 12-foot vocoder taking over lead vocals.

*Additional performances by Beyoncé, Pink, Taylor Swift, The Black Eyed Peas, Dave Matthews Band, and Roberta Flack. But with “Pants on the Ground” supposedly kicking off the show from the red carpet, there’s nowhere to go but down.

*More of this in the press room.

And if our predictions posts come to fruition, you can count on the following:

*Taylor Swift winning Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Performance, and Album of the Year
*Kings of Leon winning Record of the Year
*Keri Hilson winning Best New Artist
*Stevie Wonder winning Best Male Pop Performance
*Justin Timberlake and Ciara winning Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals
*Black Eyed Peas winning Best Pop Duo or Group Performance and Best Pop Album
*Lady Gaga winning Best Dance Recording and Best Dance Album

And if our Grammys Worst Calls post is to be believed, none of the above will take place.

I specifically went to the office late today, because the first of the major TV and film awards for 2010 announced its nominees this morning, the Golden Globes.

I mentioned on Facebook how I felt about Sandra Bullock’s performance in ‘The Blind Side’ and she has received a nomination for it as well as for her turn in “The Proposal”. The critics talked about her on-screen chemistry in “The Proposal” with Ryan Reynolds, but they raved about her acting in ‘The Blind Side’.

Meryl Streep has received two nominations in the same category as Bullock – Best Leading Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her roles in ‘Julie and Julia’ and ‘It’s Complicated’. Streep will win for ‘Julie and Julia’. Hands down or I go to cooking school…

6:48AM, EST, October 15, 2009

Last night in Manhattan, the Brooks Brothers store hosted the launch party for the new limited-edition Mad Men suit.

Mad Men’s Vincent Kartheiser - Photo: Patrick McMullan

Designed with the help of the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, and inspired by the tailoring favored by Don Draper and Roger Sterling, Brooks Brothers said that the hand-finished, American-made suit is made from gray sharkskin fabric and its two-button jacket features narrow lapels, diagonal pockets and side vents.

Brooks Brothers will sell the limited-edition “Mad Men” suit, from October 19 through November 8 (Mad Men season finale) and retails for $998 — where according to Dave Itzkoff, writer for ArtsBeat at the New York Times says is, “perfect for those late-night drives when you might run into your daughter’s grade-school teacher”.

Vincent Kartheiser, who plays Pete Campbell, modeled the suit (see photo) last night and also chatted with Maridel Reyes from New York Magazine. The interview is below:

Do you get stopped on the street?
Once every four weeks. That’s not a detriment to my life.

Those ladies over there wanted a photo with you.
Coming to an event like this, people are going to recognize you, they’re expecting to see you. But no one’s walking down the street expecting to see the fourth lead on a show they may or may not have seen, you know what I mean? Guys like me, we have a normal life. Except for like, people who are very keen, or you’re sitting across from them on the subway for an hour. Or they see Sterling Cooper on your bag or something.

You carry around a Sterling Cooper bag?
I’ve only been recognized for that once, and I wear it almost everywhere. People don’t read each others’ bags. Especially in cities like New York. No one looks at me on the bus in L.A. I’ve never been bothered on the bus. Mad Men’s not on Telemundo yet.

Are you getting the swine-flu shot?
No. I had the flu like two years ago, it wasn’t so bad. Whatever, I’ll get it or I won’t.

Do you know anyone who has it?
I heard David Boreanz had it. [Laughs]

They had to shut down production of Bones.
I guess. I’m more worried about mercury poisoning in New York. I’m on the Jeremy Piven diet of being an asshole.

Are you worried about Pete’s future on the show? Sal got fired, Joan left …?
I love the show, it’s been a blessing. It’s what it is. I trust that everything Matthew does is best for the story. I’m here to serve the story. I mean, I want to work on Mad Men for the rest of my life. Matt will do the right thing.

We noticed you dancing around the room earlier. Was Pete’s Charleston on Mad Men your idea?
I have no ideas. I’m an actor. He hired real actors. We can sing, we can dance, we can act. You know, we all can dance. Any one of us could have done that dance. Anyone: Jon Hamm, John Slatterly, Christina Hendricks, January Jones. Anyone could have, given ten lessons like I had.

Did you see January Jones on the cover of GQ today?
No.

She mentions in the story that her ex-boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher, told her to give up acting. Did anyone ever tell you that?
Yeah, I dated a girl when I was … Well, I didn’t date her. I played spin the bottle when I was 13 with this girl who was on tour with me, a traveling tour. She kissed me and I thought I was in love. It was my first kiss with tongue, ever. I was 13. Later that night, she caught me smoking pot. And she said, “I can’t believe you would do that!” And I said, “Please don’t tell my mom, because she’ll make me get out of this role in this play and it will ruin my career.” And she said, “What career?” And that was my motivating force for years. That whole idea that someone could write you off was something that I took so seriously. And especially when I was a young man, I really took myself seriously. I take myself less seriously as I’ve gotten older. I think I’m like Benjamin Button when it comes to that kind of stuff.

There’s been a lot speculation about why Kater Gordon is leaving the show. Were you surprised when you heard she wasn’t coming back for Season 4?
I love Kater Gordon. The only thing I can say is what I said before. We trust Matt is doing what he needs to do to tell this story. And I think Kater is going to have a really amazing career as a writer, and she’s not going to have a hard time finding work. She’s got great ideas and we loved working with her. And we’ll miss her. But we trust Matthew and he’s doing what he needs to do to tell the story. Maybe next season he’s just going to go in a different direction and he just needs someone to fill a different void in the room, and I don’t know what that is. And this is an industry where we’re always saying goodbye at some point. No show goes on forever, you know, even these Broadway shows that go on for 20, 30 years. They end eventually. So we all know it’s like a relationship. I know it’s going to end when I get into it.

In light of Letterman’s admission, have you ever had an affair with a co-worker?
I don’t call them affairs.

Dated a co-worker?
I haven’t for years, years, years.

Is it a bad idea?
No, not always. Of course not. But, if you’re a real asshole like I am, yeah, it probably is.

Multi-Emmy-Award winning Mad Men can be seen Sundays at 10PM, EST on AMC.

Emmy's Mad for AMC's 'Mad Men'

According to AMC blogger ‘hanna’ there’s a real dilemna tonight.

‘Hanna’ goes on to say:

Thank goodness for technology – with a DVR I’ll be taping (and watching) both at the same time. If you are without a means to do that, then you’ll have to decide how important watching the Emmys is to you. If you care that much, then watch the awards show and catch a re-run of MM later in the week. You can probably watch about 3/4 of the Emmys before the 10pm viewing of MM, anyway. Keep in mind that the last awards of the night include Best Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama and Best Drama.

Stylish period drama Mad Men and comedy 30 Rock are the favorites to win big at the 61st Emmy Awards in Los Angeles tonight.

AMC’s hit Mad Men – set in the politically incorrect world of a New York advertising agency in the early 1960s – is tipped to repeat its 2008 triumph in the outstanding drama series category with a total of 16 nominations.

Its rivals for the award include Breaking Bad, Damages. Lost, Dexter and House.

Mad Men also has nominations in the top acting categories with leading man Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss, but there are lower expectations for their success.

“Mad Men definitely has the ‘cool quotient’ right now,” said Tom O’Neil, an awards season pundit with the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s classy, it’s well-written and it has something which is very important – snob appeal, an elitist appeal if you like.”

Meanwhile, 30 Rock is expected to see another clean sweep in the comedy categories, with a record-breaking 22 nominations including nods for the show’s two stars, Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, who both won last year. Other nominees include Family Guy and Entourage.

Fey – who shot to international fame during last year’s US presidential election for her uncanny impersonations of Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin – plays a writer on the show, while Baldwin plays a slippery television network executive.

“30 Rock is irresistible to a lot of the voters because it’s a show about television – the industry that the Emmys celebrate,” O’Neil said.

HBO’s Iraq-invasion drama Generation Kill is favored to win the Emmy for outstanding mini-series, where it faces competition from the BBC’s Charles Dickens-adaptation Little Dorrit.

The favorite for outstanding actor in a drama series is last year’s winner Bryan Cranston, for his portrayal of a high school chemistry teacher in Breaking Bad.

But Cranston could be vulnerable to a challenge from Gabriel Byrne, the Irish actor who plays a neurotic psychotherapist in the HBO hit In Treatment.

In the women’s acting categories, veteran actress Glenn Close is expected to pick up the third Emmy of her career for her role as ruthless New York lawyer Patty Hewes in Damages.

If you haven’t made dinner already and you are a TV buff, TV Award show fanatic, tune in:
